Charlie Kirk: A Time for Introspection
The Celebrations that Ensued after the Assassination of Charlie Kirk Reveal the Crippling Hatred and Indifference of Many Americans, but There is Still Hope for Our World.
Introspection. It's a very important aspect of my life. And I think that taking time to examine our hearts as a nation is integral for healing and progress going forward after a tragedy. In this space, I would like to share a few things out of love, some food for thought.
My question is, Where are the true peacemakers and healers?
I’ve seen countless video clips of US citizens supporting terrorist organizations. Young people die in our schools or at the hands of the authorities, no one seems to bat an eyelash. I've read thousands of comments across social media with people expressing their joy – mocking, cheering, dancing, and laughing – at a man’s death. Graphic videos and comicbook style satyrical images of death and war are being shared and spread across FB and Instagram.
How do we have all this time and energy to participate in evil? Wow. Just wow.
Many hearts have grown cold and indifferent to the suffering going on around the world. Right now, there are several nations at war, a few countries in famine, and school shootings, domestic violence, child abuse, and sex trafficking are at an all-time high, among other catastrophes. But people are so wrapped up and distracted in their politics and pridefulness to even acknowledge the pain and suffering that others endure. Especially here in the West.
How in the world did we get here?!
There is no love, no compassion, no forgiveness. No introspection. No examination of the heart. No responsibility for our words or actions. And absolutely no reverence for God.
People’s hearts have gotten so ice-cold, they no longer feel anything at all.
We’re always urging our citizens, especially our young people, to stand up, come forward, and get involved.
But when they do, they are silenced.
I didn’t know very much about Charlie Kirk, and to be honest, I didn’t agree on every point he made. But I respected Kirk for being brave enough to come forward and stand up for the things that mattered to him. I appreciated his support for homeschoolers like myself and for his stance on rebuilding the family unit. I also admired how he often held his own during public debates and forums and was masterful at sharing the Scriptures and the Gospel of Christ. And that’s not an easy thing to do in a public setting.
One thing is for sure - this nation hates to hear the truth. About anything. It appears that when people are confronted with the truth, they get angry, even belligerent. Their hearts fill with hate. That’s when they stop listening, they stop learning, they stop trying to understand, they stop all dialogue.
Is this why Kirk is no more? Did he say something that unhinged his murderer? Did something he said make his dissenters secretly feel he was worthy of death? I don’t know.
But truth is a mirror. It is one of the languages of God.
Across the world, humanity has also lost other leaders, rebels, warriors, throughout the ages, all who dared to stand up against crippling opposition and hatred, and unfortunately paid with their lives; Chilembwe, Evars, Lumumba, Pinto, Masih, Gandhi, Malcolm, King, Jesus. The list goes on…
A sobering fact: Some people did not agree with them and rejoiced over their deaths as well.
And Masih was only 12 years old when his life was taken. While riding his bicycle with friends.
But despite the challenges and struggles, many of us continue the work -- we are on the front lines every day fighting for the poor, the elders, the displaced, the abused, especially the unborn. This is not only the foundation of my life as a humanitarian, but as a true follower of Christ.
There is so much work to be done. While the media brainwashes us and distracts us with foolishness, the world persists in pain.
So, where are our true peacemakers and healers?
This world as we know it is dying. We’ve been digging our own graves for a very long time.
The fate of the world may be set, but there is still so much worth saving, worth fighting for. There is still so much love and good in the world, and only the peacemakers and healers, unpolluted by this world system, have the power to bring it to the forefront. We can’t afford to become distracted by things that don’t really matter in the end. And we must not let evil continue to have free reign.
Just after an assassination attempt on his life, Bob Marley was asked why he was still going to perform at his scheduled concert. He replied, “Evil don’t take no days off, why should I?”.
Yes, If you can sing, sing. If you can write, write. If you can speak, speak. Do something to bring about change. Bathe this planet in love and compassion. Do whatever you can to ease the pain and suffering of this world. Do all that you can to reach our fellow humans whose hearts have grown cold and filled with hatred and malice. Put your own prejudices and biases aside. Open your eyes. Pay attention. Stop wasting time. Travel the world. Teach. Speak life. Cultivate peace. Do all that you can to stop injustice. Keep fighting for the truth. No matter what. Continue in the work of our Lord and Savior.
I know at times it may seem difficult to continue the work of our Father through the chaos, but without love, this world is doomed for sure.
Remind our fellow brothers and sisters of who we really are as humans. We can help to change hearts and minds. Clearly, we’ve forgotten ourselves. We are not each other’s enemies. We are spirit beings. We are not the bodies we momentarily occupy. Our bodies and any cultural or political categories we ascribe to are wasting away day by day.
We’ve lost sight of the fact that this life isn’t all there is.
One day we will all stand before our Creator, and give an account for the things we have done, the careless words we have spoken, for the joy we shared in evil-doing. Myself included. And yes, this includes ALL of the things we post on the internet.
The Scriptures warn us against finding pleasure in those that do evil (Romans 1:32).
Everything done in secret will come out into the light.
You may also want to reconsider joining any of these political parties. Refrain from idolizing them. They’re a distraction. Don’t let their ideologies blind you to reality. Don’t let them trick you into hating others. If you step outside of the chaos, you’ll soon see that both political parties can be breeding grounds for unrighteousness, division, and strife, and cause so many to live outside of the will of our heavenly Father. They may take you down a dark path that you may not return from. Sadly, for many, it may already be too late.
The Scriptures tell us “….Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you”. (2 Corinthians 6:17)
The media and these parties have a stranglehold on this country. If you find yourself bullying, mocking, and threatening others with violence, and even worse, for who they vote for, or don’t vote for…If you’re finding yourself hating someone or something and not sure why …If you’re cheering on the efforts of those who disseminate violence, hatred, and indifference, it’s time for you to really look yourself in the mirror and question your words, motives, intentions, and where your allegiance truly lies…and to whom.
Question whether your thoughts are really your own. Are you a product of the system? Do you take time to place yourself in someone else’s shoes? If you hate or dislike someone, is it because of your own personal experience with them? Or what others want you to feel? Have you been brainwashed into hatred, indifference, and desensitized by the media? Or a particular church, school, or organization?
Step outside of yourself and take a look. A good look.
The only political party worth joining is eternal – the Kingdom of God.
Yes, it’s time for a real heart check. Seek the Lord while He may be found.
It’s later than we think.
Rest in Eternal Peace, Brother Charlie. We’ll continue the journey from here.
